The finale info was announced via the anime’s official Twitter account and website. There, details such as the date, time, and contents of the finale were revealed.
According to the announcement, the finale won’t be a continuous one-hour episode. Instead, it will be a special program that will feature back-to-back airings of Episodes 23 and 24. While not exactly an hour long if you only count the episode length, the whole TV program will broadcast in an hour given that there are also commercials. This finale release has been done with other TV anime, with one example being Kaguya-sama: Love Is War which also got a one-hour special that featured the two final episodes shown back-to-back.
In the lead-up to the finale’s release, a special program entitled “A Couple of Cuckoos: Special Program for 3 Consecutive Weeks: Watch This and See the Final Episode” will be broadcast weekly, starting September 17, 2022. This three-part special will feature behind-the-scenes stories about the recording sessions of the anime, as well as a spotlight on the fan-favorite scenes from the first season. Parts 1 and 2 of the special will air on September 17 and 24 at 3:40 AM JST. The third and final part will air on September 29 at 1:26 AM JST. Its story follows Nagi Umino, a high school student who discovers that he is not the biological son of his parents. He discovers that he was swapped at birth with Erika Amano, now a social media star. When their families discover this, their parents decide to get them into an arranged marriage so that they can essentially be returned to their rightful families. To further this plan, the two are made to live in the same house. Both Nagi and Erika reject this idea, but they are both unwilling to back down. Thus begins their unlikely relationship. A Couple of Cuckoos Episodes 23 and 24 will air during the one-hour finale on TV Asahi network’s “NUMAnimation” programming block on October 1, 2022. The finale will also be released on Crunchyroll as the whole series has been simulcast on the platform in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS.
