While the director did make it known that he is planning a franchise up to Avatar 5, which could potentially feature Neytiri discovering life on Earth, Avatar 2’s Spider actor Jack Champion teases a few hinted details that you may have missed in the sequel which could lead to the plot of Avatar 3.

Recently speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Champion, who plays Spider — the adopted human child of Jake Sully and Neytiri in the sequel — details in on how Avatar 3 ‘takes a hard left turn’ from the Avatar sequel. Given that Avatar 2 has introduced the Metkayina clan led by Ronal’s (Kate Winslet) family, the third Avatar film is bound to introduce more hidden cultures. Check out Champion’s full comment below:

“I was very shocked with [Avatar 3]. It just takes a hard left turn [from Avatar 2], and that’s not a bad thing.” Champion says, “You think you know where it’s going, but then a wrecking ball comes. So you’re completely like, ‘Oh wow, I never thought that would’ve happened.’”

Champion continues on to say, or pretty much confirming what Cameron and Jon Landau previously teased about the Avatar franchise: “You also see more regions of Pandora, and you get introduced to more cultures. So I think it’s even better than Avatar 2. Collectively, they’ll each get better.”

James Cameron also previously shared how even he had seen himself improve overtime on writing the history and overall franchise for his Avatar world. He had already submitted his Avatars 3, 4, and 5 scripts to Disney beforehand, which earned high praises from the studio.

For now, Avatar: The Way of Water is currently showing in theaters, with Avatar 3 currently slated for release on December 20, 2024.
