What once was the highest-grossing film of all time is back in theaters as Avatar gets a re-release before the arrival of its much-awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, in December 16. Surprisingly, 93% of the moviegoers still prefer to see the film in 3D. As reported by Collider, Avatar scored $30.5 million during the opening weekend of the re-release and 93% of those who watched it still chose to see it in 3D. 3D, 4D, and IMAX formats of Avatar’s re-release dominated its international box office with three-fourths of it coming from the said formats. When Avatar first released in cinemas, 3D was relatively a new technology and everyone around the world was still excited to put on some 3D glasses when watching a movie. As it turns out, having it re-released in 4K 3D version would still make the fans flock the theaters.

Avatar once sat at the throne of being the highest-grossing movie of all time until it was dethroned by Avengers: Endgame. Various sequels were already in place immediately after its release in theaters. With that being the case, Avatar: The Way of Water is also releasing in 3D with some of the lucky fans who attended the Disney D23 Expo experiencing the 3D clips from the sequel firsthand. Avatar is currently showing in theaters. Avatar: The Way of Water will make its premiere on December 16, 2022.
