What is Engage Kiss All About?
Shuu Ogata is the owner of a small PMC (Private Military Company), a type of company tasked with secretly taking down demons that plague Bayron City. The city never seems to run out of demon extermination jobs. With Shuu and his human-demon hybrid girlfriend, Kisara, making up the entire company, you would think they’d be living in luxury with all the money from such missions… except that couldn’t be farther from the couple’s reality. On top of Shuu’s spending problem, he also is quite picky about the jobs he takes on. As a result, he never has money to spend and he always is up to his neck in bills. Despite this, Kisara happily stays by his side, even considering getting a part-time job so she could help Shuu, even if it meant having to add a third pin to juggle, along with school and the actual demon-fighting. She already sounds like the perfect partner as it is, and yet Kisara isn’t the only female whom Shuu depends on. Completing the love triangle that Engage Kiss centers on is Shuu’s former colleague, Ayano. Ayano also happens to be Shuu’s ex-girlfriend, and by the looks of it, she seems to still be in love with him. This is probably why she still helps Shuu by treating him to food sometimes, paying some of his bills, and even securing bids for jobs he wants to take. Right now, Shuu appears to be torn between Kisara and Ayano, who both hate each other but also understand the dynamic between the three of them. Episode 2 hinted at Shuu’s past, which has to do with demons being responsible for his family’s death. This fact may have some sort of link to Shuu’s previous statement of only doing jobs he needs to do, but without any further clue as of yet, nobody really knows for sure. The episode also introduced new characters and provided an opening into the political issue that may be one of the key themes of Engage Kiss. With elements of romance, great action, and a bit of comedy, Engage Kiss is definitely one of the more original stories to follow this Summer 2022 anime season.
