In the first film, Sam Claflin’s Mycroft Holmes was rather dismissive when it came to his sister’s pursuits beyond becoming a ‘fully grown woman.’ So it would be logical for the sequel to focus more on being ‘head-to-head’ with Enola’s more famous detective of a brother, Sherlock, to see how far they could both test their limits in their line of work.

When asked whether Sam Claflin’s absence was a creative decision or a schedule conflict with the actor, Enola Holmes 2 director Harry Bradbeer was quick to address that both circumstances came to a better resolution for the sequel. Check out his full story below upon speaking with Collider:

Seeing as it was more of Sherlock’s encouragement in refining Enola’s evident skills, it is rather relieving to see that the sequel focuses on how their dynamic relationship would work once they are off on their own in pursuing the truth.
