Its release in US theaters was announced recently by anime distributor GKIDS. The announcement was made via the distributor’s official Twitter account, and it included info such as release dates and when tickets will go on sale.

This upcoming movie is entitled Evangelion: 3.0+1.01, meaning it’s different from the initial 3.0+1.0 release. The series began with the release of Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone back in 2009, followed by Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo which were released in 2011 and 2016, respectively.

The first Rebuild movie was almost the same as the original TV anime, but the next movies diverged heavily from the original material with the introduction of brand-new characters and different plot points. The last Rebuild movie was released in Japan to critical and commercial success. Japanese publications gave the film positive reviews, and it earned over JPY 10 billion (around USD 70 million) during its entire Japanese theatrical run. According to creator Hideaki Anno, he wished for the movie to reach the JPY 10 billion mark. Despite the pandemic measures in Japan, the film was able to accomplish Anno’s goal.
