Martin spoke on a Random House YouTube livestream to share that The Winds of Winter, the fifth book in the series, is around 75% done, meaning that its release date will be coming out sooner than expected. Watch George R.R. Martin’s statement in the Twitter video below:

Martin first began working on Winds of Winter back in 2010. While it has taken 12 years to reach this point, fans are still eager to read the next pages just to see what happens next in the Game of Thrones franchise. After all, even the author himself admitted he wished his books stayed ahead of the Game of Thrones series to have avoided one of the most disappointing endings we have ever seen on television.

He could finally say goodbye to the old fandom jokes that made him feel ‘a little grisly’ seeing as one of them crossed the line as it speculates that George R.R. Martin would long be gone from this world before the Game of Thrones book series would ever be completed.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon Season 2 has already been confirmed, but has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
