The Hollywood Reporter has just published an in-depth report about the Game of Thrones spin-off shows including House of the Dragon and the canceled pilot Bloodmoon. Interestingly, we also learned new details about HBO’s plans for the “successor shows” (that’s what George R.R. Martin liked to call them), like the fact that there were initially 15 (!) possible concepts that got narrowed down to the five we have heard about.
Well, there were actually four we heard about and one we found out about today. The report reveals that one of the pitches for a Game of Thrones prequel would have focused on Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros. The show, which was going to be written by Rand Ravich and Far Shariat, would have depicted the first King of the Seven Kingdoms “as a drunken lout.”
It’s still unclear whether the Aegon I Targaryen prequel is going to get the greenlight. In the meantime, his descendant who shares his name is set to get his own show very soon. It was previously confirmed that the next Game of Thrones spin-off will focus on Jon “Aegon” Snow and will take place after the events of the final season.
For now, the Jon Snow series starring Kit Harington has not yet been given an official release date. In the meantime, the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022.
