Golden Kamuy Season 4 Episode 6 Recap

In Noboribetsu, Lieutenant Tsurumi realizes that Anji Toni was impersonating a masseur in order to spy on their movements. Ariko also notices that Anji Toni’s tattoos are similar to those on his grandmother’s arms. Lieutenant Tsurumi congratulates Ariko on finding Anji Toni’s body in the midst of an avalanche. Ariko responds by telling the lieutenant that he was simply fortunate that the man’s legs were sticking out of the snow. Ariko was then asked if the tattoos resembled those of the Ainu, to which he replied that he couldn’t say because tattoos differed from region to region. The next night, Ariko sneaks behind Lieutenant Tsurumi to steal Anji Toni’s skin. He was caught red-handed when he discovered the makiri that the lieutenant had taken from the Tomakomai murder scene. As it turns out, Lieutenant Tsurumi is aware that Ariko’s father is one of the seven Ainu killed by Nopperabo. The Lieutenant was also aware that Ariko had not brought Anji Toni’s original skin with him and that the skins they did have were only low-quality copies. Ariko is also mocked by the Lieutenant because Hijikata Toshizou can never truly avenge his betrayal. After all, Hijikata Toshizou’s plan for Hokkaido’s independence is contingent on the Ainu’s support and trust. The Lieutenant, unlike Hijikata, has the authority to punish anyone, including Ikaripopo, Ariko’s mother, or any member of his family. After being blackmailed, the Lieutenant ordered Ariko to become a double agent by bringing back all of the skin in order to gain Hijikata’s trust. Usami beat up Ariko to make it look plausible. Lieutenant Tsurumi then released Ariko, only to be pursued by Anji Toni, who turned out to be alive and well. The pair returned the skins to Hijikata Toshizou, who revealed that the skins belonged to Sekiya, as well as the five others that Lieutenant Tsurumi possessed. Hijikawa also knew that Tsurumi’s five skins were all ingenious forgeries made from real human skin, thanks to Edogai’s tattooed skins. He purposefully sent Anji Toni’s fake skin for Lieutenant Tsurumi to discover. This implies that Ariko’s return to them can only mean one of two things: he is a double agent, or Lieutenant Tsurumi allowed him to steal the skins. Hijikata Toshizou has discovered that the Lieutenant’s five skins are all fake. He sees it as a good thing because these skins, along with the one they discovered with the taxidermist, will bring them closer to discovering the truth about the treasure. Lieutenant Tsurumi, on the other hand, plans to travel to Karafuto in order to protect Asirpa, who will be crucial in cracking the code. Meanwhile, Ryu is elevated to the position of isohseta, the lead dog pulling Sugimoto’s sled. Asirpa and the others said their goodbyes in Enonoka’s village before boarding a passing horse sled bound for Oodomari. Before leaving, Cikapasi promised to return and never forget Enonoka. He even fell off the sled as he bid Henke and Enonoka farewell. When Tanigaki Nispa saw this, he made the difficult decision to tell Cikapasi to stay and become a true family member of Enonoka. He also left Cikapasi the gun he inherited from the man who saved his life. In Oodomari, Otonoshin recalls Ogata’s words to Ako right before he fled. Back then, Ogata told him that he needed to ask Lieutenant Tsurumi about the Manchurian Railroad. As a result of the Japan-Russo War, they obtained railway rights for the South Manchuria Railway Company. Except for one army officer who strongly opposed the plan and predicted its failure, this railway company would have served as a de facto expansion of Japanese territory. This man was General Hanazawa Koujirou, the former commander of the 7th Division. The plans for the Manchurian Railroad advanced only after his suicide. Otonoshin concluded that Lieutenant Tsurumi was responsible for the former commander’s death. Tsukishima flatly denied Otonoshin’s claims, calling them ridiculous and paranoid fantasies. Tsukishima also revealed that Lieutenant Tsurumi plans to use the Ainu gold to fund an arms industry that makes full use of Hokkaido’s vast resources before launching a revolution to establish his own military government.
