Robbie Coltrane played Hagrid in all eight films starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which means he watched Daniel Radcliffe grow through the years. Not surprisingly, Coltrane has been a huge part of Radcliffe’s professional life and in a statement shared by Variety, Radcliffe paid tribute to the Scottish actor. “Robbie was one of the funniest people I’ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set,” Radcliffe’s statement reads.

“I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on Prisoner of Azkaban, when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up. I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man,” the statement concludes. Although he is best known for playing the half-giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, Robbie Coltrane also played a major role in the James Bond films GoldenEye and The World is Not Enough. He also provided the voice of Lord Dingwall in Brave and portrayed the informant Matsui in Ocean’s Twelve. Coltrane passed away at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert on October 14, 2022. He was 72 years old. Daniel Radcliffe is currently promoting his latest project Weird: The Al Yankovic Story where he plays musician Alfred Matthew “Weird Al” Yankovic. The film already premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be available on The Roku Channel on November 4, 2022.
