The series was first announced in 2017 but only started production in 2020. Then there was the Covid-19 outbreak, which forced filming to pause due to global restrictions. The crew was able to resume filming in the summer of 2020 until the middle of 2021. The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 1 was filmed in New Zealand, which pays tribute to the work of Peter Jackson. But with the confirmed The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 2, the show will relocate production to the UK.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Story: What to Expect
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power story is set in the Second Age of Middle-Earth. In contrast, the previous films, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit were set at the end of the Third Age. The timeline of the series reveals how Sauron managed to gain control of Middle-Earth and leave it to the chaotic world we’ve come to know in the films.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Crew & Episodes
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power showrunners are J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. They lead an experienced writing team with Gennifer Hutchison (from Breaking Bad), Helen Shang (from Hannibal), and many others. There will be a total of eight episodes in The LOTR: Rings of Power Season 1. The show has already confirmed that there will be several directors working on the series. The first two episodes will be directed by J.A. Bayona (from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom). The succeeding four episodes will be directed by Wayne Che Yip (from The Wheel of Time and Doctor Who). And finally, Charlotte Brändström (from The Witcher) will direct the last two episodes. Will there be succeeding seasons for the series? Right now, all we know is that The LOTR: Rings of Power Season 2 has been confirmed. Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema also announced that they will be working on a CG anime movie called The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama (from Ultraman).
