There are some fans who are wondering about the status of the other Superman movie project that is currently in development: the J.J. Abrams-produced Black Superman movie that is written by Ta-Nehisi Coates which was reported a while ago. So far, we haven’t heard any updates about it since the new DC Studios administration came in. Now, a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the Abrams/Coates Superman project remains in active development as the writer is still working on the script. Gunn’s new Superman movie is not expected to have any impact on the project.

It is interesting to hear that the Abrams-produced Superman project is still in the works since it is an indication that Warner Bros. remains committed to doing DC projects outside the DCU. However, things can still change in the coming months so there is a possibility that they’ll pull the plug later on. There is also a chance that Warner Bros. is waiting for the next draft of the script before they decide if they should move forward with the project. After all, it is in the development stage and we’ve seen projects that are in this state that didn’t end up happening. For now, all we can do is wait and see if the project will move forward or if the new DCU will end up impacting its fate later on. At the very least, we can safely say that a lot of changes are coming in the DC franchise very soon and there is no guarantee yet that the Abrams-produced project will survive it.
