Originally published in 2018 from creator Gege Akutami, Jujutsu Kaisen is a dark fantasy shonen series set in a world where evil spirits known as “Curses” run rampant, and sorcerers train to be able to kill them. The story follows a teenage boy named Yuji Itadori, who saves his friends by consuming a Cursed object, bcoming the host of a Curse named Sukuna, the King of Curses.

Just a year after the manga was first published, an anime adaptation produced by Studio MAPPA was announced by Weekly Shonen Jump. In October 2020, the first 24 episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen started airing on MBS and TBS, and later, it became available to stream on Crunchyroll outside of Asia. The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen was directed by Sunghoo Park, who previously worked on Garo: Divine Flame, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and more. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 received generally positive reviews from critics as it currently holds an 8.7 rating on IMDB, and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is breaking box office records, and it’s now the 10th highest-grossing anime film ever. Now, fans are looking forward for the anime’s return. Here’s everything we know about Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 so far:

When is Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2’s premiere date?

At the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, the creators behind the popular shonen series announced that a movie titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0 would be released in the future. It was also announced that the movie would feature the prequel storyline titled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, which focuses on Yuta Okkotsu and Rika Orimoto. Three trailers have already been released for the movie since the film’s announcement, but what about the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen?

Back in January, Yōichi Mushiaki, president of the MBS television channel in Japan, shared a taste of hope regarding the anime’s future during an online press conference. Anime News Network reported that he said, “At this time I’d like you all to wait for us to state a concrete plan. However, I think we can provide a development that will meet expectations.” Just a few weeks after Mushiaki made those comments, it was officially confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will be released sometime in 2023 (via Crunchyroll). However, they haven’t announced an exact release date for the new season. Fans who’ve seen the recently-released Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie are craving more episodes of the anime series, so expect more news to come later this year.

What’s the story of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 about?

The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen follows Yuji’s first encounter with Sakuna and how he gets involved with the Jujutsu School and sorcerers. Throughout Season 1, the story progresses through various fights that put the anime’s characters against Curses as they search for Sakuna’s pieces. While all these things are going on, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara go through different personal challenges such as the emotional impact killing Curses has on them, and disagreements with each other’s techniques and values. Season 1 concludes with Yuji and Nobara taking down the Death Paintings, two human brothers who become Curses. Yuji also meets up with an old classmates, Yuko, who has a crush on him. Based on the events featured in Gege Akutami’s best-selling manga series, it’s safe to assume that Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will feature the Shibuya Incident and story arc, which follows the team of sorcerers, led by Yuji, as they fight a heavily-orchestrated effort by Curses and other powerful forces to take down those who oppose them. This story arc features a lot of action-packed battles with deadly ramifications for Yuji and his allies. There are also a few major losses that occur in this dark story arc. Expect Season 2 to feature the third Cursed Womb triplet, Choso, allying himself with the series villains Mahito and Geto. There’s also the minor matter of a mole in Jujutsu High, with teacher Utahime very much on the hunt for the duplicitous sorcerer.

How many chapters will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 adapt?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 was able to adapt the first 64 chapters of Gege Akutami’s manga series in 24 episodes. That’s nearly three chapters per episode on average. It’s safe to estimate that Season 2 will adapt the same number of chapters. A good stopping point for the story should also be considered. The first season adapted the first 64 chapters because the 64th chapter was the end of Death Painting Arc, which consisted of nine chapters. The next arc is about Gojo’s past with Geto Seguru. This cover a lot of events regarding Megumi and his father. It’s worth noting that this arc is pretty short, running only from chapters 65 to 79. However, the following arc, the Shibuya Incident Arc is 57 chapters long, so the anime would need to adapt a total of 71 chapters to cover both arcs.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will likely have most of the same cast as the first, so that means Junya Enoki will return to provide the voice for the protagonist, Yuji, who accepts a mission to search for all pieces of Sakuna (voiced by Junichi Suwabe). Yuma Uchida will also return to voice Megumi, the stoic sorcerer who must team up with Yuji and Nobara, (Asami Seto), a strong young woman who’s powerful in battles. Yuichi Nakamura will also return to voice Satoru, the strongest sorcerer in Jujutsu High, where the trio of fighters train. It’s likely that more voice actors will join Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 as new characters are introduced. We will update you with the latest casting details once more information becomes available.

Where can I watch Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will likely be available to stream on platforms that have the first season available now, so expect Crunchyroll and HBO Max to release the new episodes after they air in Japan. Jujutsu Kaisen is currently not available to stream on Netflix, so it’s unlikely that Season 2 will arrive on Netflix because HBO Max holds the streaming rights for this popular anime series. Netflix’s list of upcoming movies and TV shows for the month of October 2022 doesn’t include Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, so don’t expect Season 2 to arrive on the streaming service anytime soon.
