Based on author Yabako Sandrovich and artist Dorameon’s Japanese manga series, Kengan Ashura anime series was released on Netflix in 2019. There are 24 episodes for the first season of the martial arts anime split into two parts, with the first being released in June 2019, and the second part releasing in October of the same year. Here’s everything you need to know about Kengan Ashura Season 2.
Kengan Ashura Season 2 Production Update: Has Netflix confirmed new episodes for this anime series?
Since the story of the Kengan Ashura anime series is still not complete, fans of the manga series are expecting the series to return for a second season. On March 23, 2022, Netflix officially confirmed that Kengan Ashura Season 2 is coming.
There are good signs suggesting that Kengan Ashura Season 2 is currently in production. According to YouTuber Shrift, a voice actor for the English dub version reportedly responded to his question regarding the possibility of a third season, and the anonymous actor reportedly shared a photo of the script or “table read” for the new season of Kengan Ashura, but the actor didn’t provide additional details about the production. The YouTuber notes that the new episodes will likely feature the Wakatsuki vs. Julius fight featured in the manga. He also claims that he has transcripts and screenshots of voice acting practice, but the YouTuber only shared it to his Patreon members.
Kengan Ashura Season 2 Release Date: When will the new episodes be released?
Now that Kengan Ashura Season 2 is officially confirmed. However, Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a release date yet, but the official Netflix Anime Twitter account shared a new poster that confirms its 2023 release:
Given the anime’s popularity of the Kengan Ashura fight videos on YouTube, it’s likely that Netflix has already confirmed a third season, so expect Netflix and/or Larx Entertainment announce an exact release date in the upcoming months. As expected, the list of movies and TV shows coming to Netflix in November 2022 doesn’t include Kengan Ashura Season 2, so you’ll have to wait longer before the new episodes arrive.
Kengan Ashura Season 2 Plot: What will the new episodes be about?
In the Kengan Ashura anime, manager Kazuo Yamashita is put in charge of managing the protagonist Ohma Tokita, who himself is tasked with winning an annual martial arts tournament hosted by some of Japan’s business elites. Kengan Ashura Season 1 concludes when Ohma defeats Raian, an assassin from the Kure clan.
Kengan Ashura Season 2 is expected to continue the tournament as Ohma advances to its third round.
Since Kengan Ashura is based on the manga series by author Yabako Sandrovich and artist Daromeon, we could get an idea where the third season will pick off. The finale of Kengan Ashura Season 1 adapts Chapter 135 of the original manga series, which has a total of 236 chapters, so there’s still a lot of content to cover. There’s also an ongoing sequel manga series titled Kengan Omega, so it’s likely that Netflix will continue the story in future episodes.
While Kengan Omega features a new Kengan Association vs. Purgatory tournament, it’s likely that Kengan Ashura Season 2 will continue the current tournament before possibly adapting the sequel series. Hopefully, Netflix will confirm the anime adaptations for Kengan Omega in the near future. It would be interesting to see the epic battles that take place in the Kengan Association vs. Purgatory tournament.
Currently, in the manga series, the story is focused on the conflict against The Worm, the villainous criminal organization with some of the world’s strongest fighters. Recent chapters put the focus on the conflict between Narushima Koga and Xia Ji.
For now, the content of Kengan Ashura Season 2 is purely speculative, but expect Netflix to share some updates about the upcoming season this year.
Kengan Ashura Season 2 Cast: Who will voice the characters?
Japanese voice actor Tatsuhisa Suzuki is expected to return to voice Tokita Ohma. His prior credits include the lead role in Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick-Heart as well as various characters across multiple Pokemon animated series, among other titles. For the English version, Ohma is voiced by Kaiji Tang, a voice actor known for voicing the powerful mentor Satoru Gojou in Jujutsu Kaisen, and the villainous Sanemi Shinazugawa in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, and many others. In the Japanese version, Cho is the voice of Kazuo Yamashita, and in English, it was Keith Silverstein who voiced the salaryman. Kieji Fujiwara, a prolific voice actor, who provided the voice of Tokita, the surrogate father of Ohma, died in April 2020 due to cancer, as Inquirer reported, so if Kengan Ashura returns for Season 2, it’s likely that they will have to find another actor to replace him. It’s likely that the main voice actors from the first of Kengan Ashura will return, but no announcements have been made yet as to who are confirmed to return, and who are the newcomers that will provide the voice for the new characters expected to appear in Kengan Ashura Season 2.
