Shadow and Bone follows the story of Alina Starkov (played by Jessie Mei Li), a cartographer who finds out that she has sun-summoning powers. This gift makes her a member of a magical community of people called the Grisha. Her powers can obliterate the Shadow Fold, a malevolent force filled with monsters called volcra that divides her country in half. General Aleksander Kirigan (Ben Barnes), the leader of the Second Army, is interested in Alina’s powers. Season 2 will explain how the Darkling survived the Shadow Fold. Just in case you forgot, the Darkling is the powerful villain known as General Kirigan, the leader of the Second Army made up of Grisha. He’s also a seemingly all-powerful Shadow Summoner. Shadow and Bone Season 1 revealed that Kirigan is the one who created the Shadow Fold that divides Ravka. His ultimate plan is to expand its darkness and gain more control and power while doing it. Is Shadow and Bone Season 2 coming to Netflix in October 2022?
Netflix already shared its list of upcoming original movies and TV shows in October 2022, and according to this month’s schedule, Shadow and Bone Season 2 is not expected to arrive on Netflix in September 2022.
Of course, this was expected since filming just started earlier this year, and the cast have been busy with other projects. Its post-production is also expected to take several months to complete because of the amount of visual effects needed to bring the magic of Grishaverse to life.
During Netflix’s Geek Week 2022 virtual event, the cast of Shadow and Bone confirmed that they have wrapped filming for Season 2, so expect the show to return soon.
When is Shadow and Bone Season 2 coming to Netflix?
The good news is that Netflix already renewed Shadow and Bone for Season 2. On July 7, the streaming giant released a video announcement that showed the cast of Shadow and Bone confirm that Season 2 is in the works. However, the video didn’t reveal an official release date for Season 2; instead, the actors said that we’d see them return to the Grishaverse once again.
With filming wrapping up in June 2022, it means that there are only four months to complete post-production to release Shadow and Bone Season 2 by December. Considering the amount of special effects featured in this series, that doesn’t seem enough. In late September, Netflix confirmed that Shadow and Bone Season 2 will be released in 2023.
