Across the Spider-Verse takes a different approach to the character, turning Drew into a person of color.Unsurprisingly, this decision to racially bend Jessica has generated strong reactions from folks who’ve already seen the trailer. On Twitter, there’s an ongoing discourse within the Spidey fandom as to whether or not it was a good creative decision to tweak Jessica Drew’s origin in Across the Spider-Verse.
