Taking to Twitter, director Sandberg posted that a specific shot from Shazam! Fury of the Gods was inspired by the classic anime movie from 1988, Akira. The director reiterates it was all about the ‘solid white look’ given the shape and animation of the picture he referenced. Check out his tweet below:

With Wonder Woman 3’s cancellation, Jason Momoa’s transfer from Aquaman to becoming Lobo, and zero chances on a Black Adam sequel, it’s interesting to see how Shazam! 2 will play into the hands of what DC co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran plan to do with the remaining 2023 to-be-released films. Although plot details on the sequel are being kept under wraps, if we use the plot of the 1988 film, which is about a bike gang leader who saves his friend from a ‘secret government project’ thus eventually gaining his own supernatural powers to help defeat the enemy, it is possible that the synopsis of Shazam! 2 will most likely revolve around the concept of the hero questioning if he is worthy of his powers, which could end the movie with the need to prove himself and that is by saving his family once again.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods includes Zachary Levi (Shazam!), Asher Angel (Billy Batson), Jack Dylan Grazer (Freddy), Ian Chen (Eugene), Jovan Armand (Pedro), Faithe Herman (Darla), and Grace Fulton (Mary), along with Shazam! adult version actors Adam Brody, D.J. Cotrona, Ross Butler, and Meagan Good, with Djimon Hounsou (the Wizard), and new additions such as West Side Story star Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren (villain Hespera, one of the daughters of Atlas), and Lucy Liu (Hespera’s sister, Kalypso).
Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods is currently slated for release on March 17, 2023.
