Gi-Hun tragically won the game and brought home a huge cash prize, but was filled with guilt after everything that happened in the games. The finale of the series ended with a thrilling cliffhanger when Gi-Hun decided to reenter the games at the last minute, setting things up for Squid Game Season 2.

At a previous appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Jung-jae sheds some details about running across DiCaprio at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Gala (LACMA), revealing what the actor spoke to him about Squid Game, “I couldn’t believe it, really. And he told me that he actually did watch ‘Squid Game.’ He enjoyed it very much and he told me ‘you’re so lucky to be in and you did an amazing job.’ It was unbelievable.” Of course, it wasn’t very long until the fans campaigned for DiCaprio’s inclusion in the series.

Now, at a press conference to celebrate Squid Game’s record-breaking six Emmy wins (as reported by Variety), Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk shared a disheartening update about DiCaprio’s inclusion in the second season of the Netflix hit show but teased that the door is open for him and other Hollywood stars to join Season 3. See Dong-hyuk’s full quote below:

There’s no denying that DiCaprio’s appearance would definitely add another layer of anticipation, however, it appears to be a very long shot for an A-list actor like DiCaprio to show up in the series. DiCaprio is very particular in picking roles he wants to do, and doing a TV show is seemingly not in his best interest.

Nonetheless, Dong-hyuk’s revelation about Season 2’s setting still focusing on Korea means they are still sticking up with their own narrative. If ever they go international in Season 3, it’s definitely an intriguing thought which Hollywood stars would show up in the Emmy-winning show.
