It was recently confirmed that another film project has joined the Lucasfilm chopping block, continuing what seems to be a curse for the Star Wars movie slate. In case you weren’t aware, J.D. Dillard was once tapped to helm a big-screen project set in a galaxy far, far away. Unfortunately, it’s no longer happening.Speaking with The Wrap, the Devotion filmmaker confirmed that his supposed film has just been canned. He didn’t go into detail about the project’s cancelation, but noted that “it was not for lack of trying.” When asked what his film would have looked like, Dillard said the following:“My dad being an aviator, we had a bunch of flight simulators. I’m playing this game for months. And my dad’s flying it with me. And I’m like, ‘Man, this game is just so cool.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, you know, this game comes from a series of movies.’ And I was like, ‘You’re kidding me.’ That is where I watched ‘Star Wars’ for the first time and realized the full scope of what it meant to world build because I’d been playing this pseudo-16-bit game.“Also Read: Lucasfilm Taps Deadpool 3 Director to Helm New Star Wars FilmPreviously, Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron was reportedly removed from Disney’s release calendar and the lack of address from both parties seems to indicate that it’s no longer pushing through. Moreover, the status of Taika Waititi’s film also remains unclear.On a more positive note, however, the production company is currently working on two new films to be helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Shawn Levy respectively, so I guess things aren’t looking all that bad after all.
