Making Star Wars has reported that Loki director Kate Herron has been tapped to possibly helm The Acolyte. It is unknown yet how many episodes will Herron direct or the kind of capacity that she will be involved in the series. However, the information has not been confirmed yet by Lucasfilm so we have to take it with a grain of salt for now.
In addition, Bespin Bulletin also reported that the series has begun pre-production in Reading, England while production is expected to take place at the newly-constructed Shinfield Studios later this year although it is unknown yet if they will utilize the Volume technology just like the other Star Wars live-action series.
Assuming that Herron is indeed going to helm the series, it is exciting news since she has proved in Loki that she has a talent as a filmmaker and is capable of telling a visually-stunning story on a bigger scale just like what she did in the MCU series. She also seems to be a very good fit for material like The Acolyte and she can put her stamp as a director since it will be set in an era that hasn’t been presented yet in live-action.
Considering that pre-production is already underway, there is a possibility that we will be hearing more updates about the series in the next few months and perhaps a confirmation from Lucasfilm themselves regarding Herron’s involvement in the director’s chair.
