Recently, the official Twitter page of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has released artwork that’s heavily inspired by the cover art of Chainsaw Man Volume 1. Specifically, the artwork features a blue and yellow color scheme in the background and for the character’s uniform, in reference to the flag of Ukraine. Aside from the colors, the artwork also features the words “HIMARS MAN” along with a character that’s inspired by Denji. Though instead of chainsaws, HIMARS MAN is equipped with three HIMARS rocket launchers. The M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) is a light multiple rocket launcher that was developed for the US Army. Recently, Ukraine’s armed forces were given HIMARS launchers to help in their defense against the invasion. As HIMARS launchers are a big upgrade to the previous artillery that Ukraine uses, several reports have noted that these might help stem the Russian advance into the country. Chainsaw Man is a popular manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto that started serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump back in December 2018. The series ended its initial run in 2020, but it resumed with Part 2 last July. When it resumed serialization, the manga trended online, with the first new chapter getting over 3 million views in less than 24 hours. Given the popularity of the series, it’s not too surprising to see the Ukrainian Army releasing artwork inspired by Chainsaw Man. Though it does seem like a case of life imitating art considering that the series’ story tackles the fear, the danger of weapons, and conflicts between different governments. Chainsaw Man is getting an anime series adaptation by studio MAPPA. While there’s no word yet on an official release date, the series recently got a new key visual, with a trailer to be released later this week.
