Rolling Stone recently published an article that profiled the making of Zack Snyder’s Justice League including how the alleged manipulation of fake accounts to fuel the “Snyder Cut” campaign. One of the interesting pieces of information that came out from the report is the fate of Martian Manhunter, who was included in the film despite not being part of the original script.
According to the report, DC Films executive Walter Hamada requested for Martian Manhunter to be cut out of the film due to their plans for the character in the future of the franchise. However, Snyder reportedly threatened to delete the other footage if he wasn’t allowed to include the character. The director denied the claim and said that he will not have the ability to do so.
In the end, former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar sided with Snyder and Martian Manhunter was included in the final version of the film where it was revealed that Harry Lennix’s character Calvin Swanwick is actually J’onn J’onzz, a shape-shifting alien from Mars.
It is interesting to hear that Warner Bros. almost excluded Martian Manhunter in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and it’s a relief that it didn’t end up happening. While the character didn’t have a major part in the story, it was still awesome to see him show up and set up what would have been a sequel to the film.
Right now, it is unknown whether the character will appear again in a future DCEU film. If we based it on Hamada’s alleged comment during the behind-the-scenes of the film, it looks like we might see him again soon and let’s just wait and see what kind of plans they have.
