At first, Emilia did not know about her mother’s true identity. She just thought that she was an ordinary human who died. Therefore, when the Ente Isla Church decided to train her as a Hero, she was hesitant at first, not knowing that it was her angel duty. Will Emi Find Her Mother?
Emi does find out that her mother is Lailah, the archangel, in The Devil Is a Part-Timer! Season 2. The two had their first encounter in Episode 3, where a young woman in white asked Emi to help her find a ring that contains a purple gem. The said gem caught Emi’s attention and the woman assured her that she is not the enemy and that she knows Emi’s identity. In Episode 9, Emi received a call from Emerada to let her know that her mother was looking for her. Emi was able to figure out that her mother was the woman she met in Episode 3. However, it seems like they won’t be reuniting soon as Lailah has her own missions to finish. During the battle, Lailah chose to talk to Chiho more than Emi even though the Hero begged her mother to talk to her.
What Is Lailah’s Mission?
Even though it might seem that Lailah is a bad mother, it appears that she somehow cares for her family too. It was revealed in The Devil Is a Part-Timer! Season 2 that she saved Nord Justina from the attack and hid him somewhere on Earth. She also warned Emi, somehow showing a bit of motherly care from the archangel. Lailah’s goal is to protect the Tree of Life and keep it alive. The Tree of Life has been over-used by Heaven and requires the human spirit and various advancements to keep it going. The angels use the tree to sustain their magic, and this dependence will only end once Lailah defeats Ignora. Once Ignora is defeated, the angels can stop depending on the tree so much and the humans can continue living without their assistance.
