The show was actually among those that were hit by the effects of the COVID-19 lockdowns and delayed production schedules. Aside from that, Christina Applegate got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis sometime in the middle of the pandemic. It wasn’t until 2021 when production finally started. The show also wrapped filming in late April 2022. Needless to say, Dead to Me Season 3 is back and is finally getting released in just a few days. The next question though is will there be a Dead to Me Season 4?
Will There Be a Dead to Me Season 4?
Sadly, it’s been announced that Dead to Me Season 3 will be the last season for the show. However, the show was not canceled. Liz Feldman, the creator of the show, revealed that she signed a deal with Netflix to keep Dead to Me to just a few seasons. Feldman told The Hollywood Reporter: “I always had the sense that I wanted this show to be a relatively short-running one. I understand the landscape at Netflix. It’s very rare for them to have a show that goes five, six or seven seasons. It can happen, but it’s obviously the exception. Halfway through shooting Season 2, an idea came to me that felt very true to the show – and I realized that it could be a really great way to end it.”
Did Christina Applegate’s MS Affect Future of Dead to Me?
Nobody wants to get MS, but for some to think that the show was cut short because of Applegate’s condition is truly disheartening. Still, when Applegate first revealed her doctor’s diagnosis, it prompted a five-month production stoppage. By then, production had already filmed 50 percent of Dead to Me Season 3. Feldman revealed that the season was filmed “completely out of order.” But that was it, Feldman revealed that she always planned for the show to have just three or four seasons. Given the platform, Feldman wanted the ending “to feel important and not just, like, ‘Oh shit, we’re going to get canceled!’ It’s like I almost wanted to beat them to the punch —decide our own destiny.”
