After hearing that statement, many can’t help but ask whether or not Holland will be starring in a reboot of The Mask of Zorro. So has Tom Holland been cast in a Zorro reboot? Here’s what we know so far about this possibility.

Will Antonio Banderas Be in a Zorro Reboot?

Banderas revealed to Comicbook.com that he would like to hand over the mask to another actor, like “what Anthony Hopkins did for me.” When asked if the 62-year-old actor would like to fill in the role at least one last time, he said that he would like to be part of the movie but not as the character. “I think today, I said something like that to somebody. They asked me about Zorro. If they called me to do Zorro, I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is to pass the torch.”

Are They Making a Zorro Reboot?

Disney has confirmed the reports that they are working on a Zorro reboot. But unfortunately, Holland has not been cast in the project. Instead, the lead role was give to Wilmer Valderrama, who will be portraying the role of Don Diego de la Vega a.k.a. Zorro. The Zorro reboot will not be a movie but a live-action TV series based on the Zorro series that ran from 1957 and 1959. The series starred Guy Williams, Gene Sheldon, Henry Calvin, and George J. Lewis.

Disney Branded Television President, Ayo Davis, shared: “We’re reimagining this Disney classic as a compelling period piece, set in Pueblo de Los Angeles, but told in a very modern telenovela style — with richly drawn contemporary characters and relationships set against the action, drama, suspense, and humor of the original, iconic Zorro. Wilmer shares our commitment to reflect the interesting and rich diversity of the human experience and we look forward to delivering a culturally relevant and entertaining story with definitional characters that will connect with our viewers for generations to come.”

When Is Zorro TV Series Reboot Coming Out?

As of this writing, there is no update yet on the release date of the show. And while there have been very few updates on its progress, Wilmer Valderrama appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show in May 2022 and gave an update on the show’s progress: “I’ll tell you this: This will be a Zorro for this generation, and it’ll be incredibly thoughtful with its origin story, and it’ll be grounded in authenticity. It is a lot on my plate, but I’m up for the challenge. You come to a point in her life where… we talk about this Mount Everest, right? And I think Zorro is one of those.”

Who Will Be Part of the Cast of Zorro Series Reboot?

Right now, Valderrama is the only actor that has been confirmed to join the series. The That ’70s Show actor revealed why he decided to accept the role: “Growing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero. As an adult and a storyteller, I have a responsibility in the stories that I help bring to life. To partner with Gary and Disney to bring Zorro back into the family after 60 years and be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories is a dream come true.” Together with Valderrama, Gary Marsh and John Gertz are executive producers of the series.
